February 21, 2018 at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Uzbekistan held a press conference on the results of foreign policy activities of Turkmenistan for 2017, as well as the program of international events for 2018.
Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, representatives of diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in Tashkent, representatives of state information services and TV and radio channels, as well as the national association of electronic media attended the press conference.
During the meeting, the participants were acquainted with the key aspects of the Concept of the foreign policy course of Turkmenistan for 2017-2023, with the results of mutual bilateral visits at the summit level that took place in 2017, as well as the priority areas of the UN-Turkmenistan dialogue.
Attention was focused on the activities of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, the 10th anniversary of its opening in Ashgabat was marked by the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution "The role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia".
On November 14-15, 2017 at Turkmenistan's suggestion was held in Ashgabat the 7th Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA VII), which resulted in the adoption of the Ashgabat Declaration, which expressed readiness of the participating states and international organizations to further enhancement of mutually beneficial partnership.
The participants of the press conference were informed about the events held within the framework of Turkmenistan's leadership at the Energy Charter Conference.
It was noted the successful holding of the V Asian Games on September 17-27, 2017 in Ashgabat in closed rooms and in martial arts.
During the press conference, it was underlined that in 2017, Turkmen-Uzbek relations were given a new impetus, and were laid the creative foundations for their expansion. It was discussed in detail the outcome of the talks between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, which took place on March 6-7 and May 19-20, 2017 in Ashgabat and Turkmenbashi. It was emphasized that the results of these meetings opened a new qualitative stage of the Turkmen-Uzbek cooperation, giving a new impetus to strategic partnerships across the entire spectrum of directions.
Also during the press conference, the participants got acquainted with the program of events planned for holding in 2018, the motto of which is "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road". In particular, the participants of the meeting were informed about the upcoming ceremonial events on February 23, 2018 on the occasion of the start of the construction of the Afghan section of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline, the laying of the power transmission line and the fiber-optic communication line Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan and the opening of the new railroad Serhetabat -Turgundi.
