Turkmen Agricultural University announces winners of the student hackathon “Geodata Systems and Solutions”

The Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov announced the winners of the hackathon “Geodata Systems and Solutions” organized by the university among students of secondary vocational and higher educational institutions of the country.

The Grand Prix of the competition was awarded to the student team of the Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan.

First place was won by students of the Turkmen State Border Service Institute and the Turkmen State Institute of Economics and Management.

Second place was shared by students of the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov and the Aba Annaev International Horse Breeding Academy.

Third place went to the teams of the Institute of Engineering, Technical and Transport Communications of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Agricultural Institute, and the Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan.

The competition took place from November 18 to 19. Thirteen teams participated, each consisting of three students from the educational institutions that took part in the event.

The hackathon was dedicated to the theme: “Advancing New Ideas Using Data and the Capabilities of Modern Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for Remote Sensing.”

Participants were tasked with preparing a GIS project, a geoportal, a web service, or a mobile application.

Over the course of four hours, the teams actively worked on creating projects using modern GIS technologies. As a result, new and interesting solutions were developed and presented, based on data and the capabilities of remote-sensing GIS. Participants demonstrated strong skills in solving complex IT tasks and the ability to work effectively as a team.

The student hackathon was held with the aim of identifying talented and capable students, encouraging and promoting innovative and creative ideas among youth, developing their creative and scientific potential, improving their skills in using geographic information systems and remote sensing tools and technologies, and fostering students’ interest in addressing current IT challenges in this field.
