Public diplomacy should become an important support for official diplomacy. This was the call made by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking at an International Forum in Ashgabat dedicated to the 30th anniversary of country’s permanent neutrality.

Hero-Arkadag emphasized that in advancing the concept of Peace and Trust today, in addition to traditional diplomacy, it is necessary to engage inter-parliamentary communication channels as well as women’s and youth diplomacy.

“Our country is doing a great deal in this area. Only in recent years, Turkmenistan has hosted a number of major events of this kind, including prominent international and regional forums. In doing so, we proceed from the understanding that public diplomacy can and should become an important support for official diplomacy, possessing additional levers of influence on political decision-making,” stated the National Leader of the Turkmen people.
