Turkmenistan’s proposal to proclaim 2028 as the Year of International Law was unanimously supported by the participants of the International Forum of Peace and Trust held in Ashgabat—heads of state and government. This support was expressed in the Ashgabat Declaration adopted following the forum.
“We call upon the Member States of the United Nations to strengthen mechanisms of multilateral cooperation as the foundation for global peace and express support for Turkmenistan’s proposal to proclaim 2028 the Year of International Law, which will reflect collective efforts to strengthen the universality and supremacy of the norms and principles of international law enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations,” emphasizes the international document.
The Ashgabat Declaration also expresses deep appreciation to the people and the Government of Turkmenistan for hosting the International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust (2025), the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of the permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan, as well as for its consistent contribution to strengthening global peace, stability, and cooperation through the steadfast implementation of the principles of permanent neutrality.
The Forum of Peace and Trust was held in Ashgabat on December 12. It was attended by the Presidents of Armenia, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkiye, and Uzbekistan, as well as the Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Pakistan, and a number of other states.
