As part of the implementation of the UNECE–WHO/Europe project “Improving Water Supply, Sanitation, Hygiene, and Health through the Implementation of the Programme of Work of the Protocol on Water and Health,” a national meeting was held at the UN building in Ashgabat. The event was organized by the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan.
The meeting brought together representatives of ministries, government agencies, and international partners, including WHO, UNECE, and UNICEF, to discuss the results of a baseline data analysis in the field of water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and health (WASH).
During the meeting, the results of the baseline data analysis were presented, and an exchange of experience took place with Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan on setting national targets under the Protocol on Water and Health. Participants discussed current achievements, challenges, and lessons learned from project implementation in other beneficiary countries.
International experts Ms. Elena Drozdova, Ms. Olga Mirshina, and Ms. Zhanar Mautanova delivered presentations, sharing their experience in implementing international projects and best practices.
Special attention was given to the need for further joint actions to improve water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and health in Turkmenistan, reaffirming the country’s commitment to international standards in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of continuing joint efforts to achieve sustainable development in the field of water resources and public health.
