The State drama theatre named after Kemine, Mary velayat, presented the play «Muneçjim» (Stargazer) in the capital as part of a tour. The production by artistic director and director Ata Gullarov was shown on the stage of the Student theatre named after Mollanepes.

The comedy, created by Jora Hudayberdiyev and based on the tales of «One thousand and one nights», revolves around the story of a powerful woman and her negligent husband.

Dreaming of wealth and luxurious clothes, the wife forces her husband to pretend to be a fortune teller, supposedly reading the stars. At first, the hero cannot get used to the new role, but attributes - a «magic» robe, a huge book and rosary beads help him get into character. The intrigue deepens when a random prophecy he made for the daughter of sultan unexpectedly comes true.

− This is the first time we have brought this production to Ashgabat, − noted the artistic director of theatre, Ata Gullarov. – The performance, staged in 2022, has become part of our permanent repertoire and is a success in Mary. We are pleased to have the opportunity to share our creativity with the public of capital.

The comedy, filled with sparkling humour and the originality of the Mary theatre school, received a warm response from the audience. The main roles were played by Kakamyrat Hanjayev, Chemen Atayeva, Kovus Alladurdyyev, Juma Yolov and Yazdursun Rahmanova. The set design of production, created by artist Merdan Akmammedov, harmoniously combined visual images with vibrant oriental flavour.

The State drama theatre named after Kemine, named after the outstanding Turkmen poet-satirist and philosopher Mammetveli Kemine, is one of the oldest in the country. Its history began in 1937, and in the spring of 1938, the premiere of drama of the Alty Garlyyev «Mirror» took place here.

In October 2006, a new modern theatre building with an area of 8400 square metres was opened. Today, the repertoire of company includes more than 30 evening performances and many productions for children. The creative team is regularly replenished with young people – graduates of the Turkmen state institute of culture.
