On February 5, 2026, a briefing on cooperation of Turkmenistan with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.  

The briefing was attended by the leadership and staff members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and representative offices of international organizations accredited in the country, as well as mass media representatives.

Reports were delivered by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Myahri Byashimova and FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia Viorel Gutu, who addressed via videoconference.

The event provided detailed information on the current state and prospects of cooperation of Turkmenistan with FAO, key achievements, and priority areas for further collaboration.

Particular attention was paid to the official visit of FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu to Ashgabat in January 2026, which confirmed the strategic nature of the partnership.

The significance of the signing of the Host Country Agreement, which established the legal basis for the opening of the FAO Representative Office in Turkmenistan and elevated cooperation to a qualitatively new level, was noted.

The successful completion of the Country Cooperation Framework for 2021 – 2025 was stated, under which projects were implemented in the areas of digitalization of agriculture, enhancing the sustainability of food systems, rational use of land and water resources, the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies, and support for farms.

It was emphasized that work is currently underway on a new Country Cooperation Framework for 2026–2030.

At the end of the briefing, questions and answers session took place.
