A representative international conference was held at the Institute of international relations of the Ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan, timed to coincide with the professional holiday of domestic diplomats. The forum, held under the symbolic motto «Priority directions of foreign policy of Turkmenistan in the Year «Independent neutral Turkmenistan – the homeland of purposeful winged horses», became a platform for understanding the key vectors of foreign policy of the country.
One of the focal points of the large-scale event was the speech by deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov, in which the priorities and philosophical foundations of modern Turkmen diplomacy were clearly outlined.
«The main directions of foreign policy of Turkmenistan are among the international priorities of the country. At the same time, the foreign policy of Turkmenistan is not static. On the contrary, it is alive, this is creative thought and action. Firmly grounded in the unshakable foundation of our permanent neutrality, diplomacy of Turkmenistan follows in the wake, and often at the forefront, of global developments, fulfilling the strategic guidelines and innovative initiatives of the esteemed President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the esteemed Hero-Arkadag. We see this as the main guarantee of the effectiveness of the Turkmen Foreign Service», − stated R. Meredov.
The head of MFA emphasised that, amid systemic shifts in global politics and economics, Turkmenistan is formulating its approach to the future world order based on its unique historical experience and the fundamental ethical norms of its people.
«Today, new realities and challenges are being added to traditional areas, while at the same time, new opportunities and positive prospects are opening up. These realities include the problem of global governance and global alliances, which are becoming particularly relevant in modern conditions. It reflects global trends that are already defining and will continue to define the key foundations of the future world order, therefore, foreign policy of Turkmenistan, responding to systemic shifts in politics, economics, technology, and other significant areas, shapes its approach to them based on a fundamental principle: the history of Turkmenistan and the experience of the Turkmen people, its distinctive culture, traditions, fundamental moral and ethical criteria and norms, and the milestones achieved in socio-economic and political-legal development», − the head of the foreign ministry clarified.
During the speech, it was particularly noted that the future system of global interaction will become viable if it is based on respect for the national characteristics of states, without interference in their internal affairs, the imposition of ready-made recipes for political and socio-economic structures, or cultural and spiritual order.
In this context, the speaker assigned a special role in the discussion to the United Nations, affirming that Turkmenistan strongly supports the initiatives of the UN General-Secretary – the «Pact for the future» and «UN-80». From the rostrum of the forum, a call was made to strengthen the universal legitimacy of the UN as the only basis for equal dialogue among peoples.
«The United Nations must remain and strengthen as a unique association of peoples and states, as the foundation of civilised communication and interaction», − the speaker urged.
Developing the theme of sustainable security, R. Meredov drew the attention of the distinguished audience to the evolution of international law.
«Turkmenistan firmly believes that international law must be a key condition and the most reliable support for the future world order – a sustainable and equitable architecture for global security and development. Based on this, Turkmenistan, at the current session of the UN General Assembly, put forward an initiative to declare 2028 the Year of International Law. We believe that broad support for this proposal will be an important step in strengthening the international legal foundations for peace and cooperation and will have long-term positive consequences», − the head of the MFA of Turkmenistan concluded.
The conference once again confirmed that the foreign policy Turkmenistan is a combination of loyalty to tradition and a readiness for creative renewal. The principled position of the country aimed at the total humanisation of international relations remains an important factor in stability in the modern world.
