Results of the “Translation - a Dialogue of Cultures” competition announced at Turkmen Language Institute

The results of the “Translation - a Dialogue of Cultures” competition have been announced at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages.

The creative competition among students was held with the aim of increasing their interest in their chosen profession and improving their translation skills.

The contestants were tasked with producing a literary translation of an excerpt from works by well-known foreign writers that had not previously been published in print editions. The translation had to be made from one of the languages studied at the institute into the Turkmen language.

A competent jury evaluated the accuracy of meaning, compliance with stylistic requirements, and adherence to the norms of the Turkmen literary language. The judging panel included foreign language teachers from the institute, as well as translators from the editorial office of the electronic journal “Arkadagly Ýaşlar” under the Central Council of the Magtymguly Youth Organization of Turkmenistan.

According to the results of the competition, first place was awarded to Shemshat Azadova, a second-year student of the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Literature.

Second place went to Humay Muhaeva, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Russian Language and Literature.

Third place was shared by Arslan Tejenov, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Oriental Languages and Literature; Meryem Meredova, a third-year student of the same faculty; and Merjen Gubaeva, a second-year student of the Faculty of European Languages and Literature.

The winners and prize-winners were awarded diplomas and commemorative gifts from the institute. In addition, the works that received recognition from the jury will be recommended for publication in the electronic journal “Arkadagly Ýaşlar”.

As noted by the organizers, the competition demonstrated not only the students’ strong interest in studying foreign languages and their future profession, but also contributed to the popularization of world literature in the Turkmen language, strengthening the bridges of intercultural understanding.
