On 27 February 2026, inter-ministerial consultations were held in Baku between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.
The delegations were headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan A. Gurbanov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan S. Sharifov.
During the consultations, the sides discussed a wide range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, as well as current aspects of the regional and international agenda.
Particular attention was paid to the development of political and diplomatic dialogue, expansion of trade and economic cooperation, interaction in the fields of transport, logistics and energy, as well as strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties.
It was noted that negotiations and meetings at the highest level are a key factor in strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. In this context, issues related to the preparation and holding of upcoming high-level events were discussed.
Emphasis was also placed on the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation as an effective mechanism for developing bilateral relations, strengthening institutional ties, and expanding partnership between the countries.
The key role of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was highlighted as an important mechanism for coordinating and promoting joint initiatives.
The development of interaction between business circles, expansion of direct contacts between entrepreneurs, and organization of national exhibitions of domestic producers’ goods were also identified as important areas.
The strategic potential of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan at the crossroads of Asia and Europe was underscored in the context of strengthening cooperation in the transport and transit sphere and implementing international transport corridors.
The sides expressed interest in diversifying trade and economic ties, including the development of cooperation in new promising areas, and also noted the important role of cultural and humanitarian interaction in strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the two countries.
Particular importance was attached to expanding cooperation in the fields of education and science, including academic exchanges and the development of partnerships between higher education institutions.
Following the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further deepening partnership relations and their readiness to continue a constructive dialogue on all issues of mutual interest.
