The French Institute in Turkmenistan (FIT) is accepting applications for participation in the 2026–Francophonie competitions, which this year are held under the motto «On the move».
The program of events includes a song contest, an essay contest, and an oral spelling contest. People over 17 years of age who are citizens of Turkmenistan and who are studying or have previously studied French can take part.
The song contest invites participants to prepare a video recording of their song performed in French.The choice of composition is free, but it must correspond to the general theme of the competition. The video recording must be submitted to the FIT on a CD or USB stick no later than 13th of March by 18:30. The jury will determine the finalists based on four criteria: quality of pronunciation and articulation, vocal ability, originality of the video work, and relevance to the theme.The best performers will have the opportunity to perform on stage at the competition finals.
The essay competition will take place on the 14th of March at 16:00 in the FIT building.To participate, please register before 12th of March (before 18:30) in the media library of the institute or by email: ift.culture@gmail.com. The topic of the written work will be announced directly on the day of the competition. Works will be assessed according to three main criteria: literacy and style of the French language, relevance to the task, and originality.The winners will perform their work on stage during the awards ceremony.
The Oral spelling competition is a special category designed for university students studying French as a first or second foreign language. The first stage of the competition will be held on the 11th to 12th of March at the Turkmen state university named after Magtymguly, the Turkmen national institute of world languages named after Dovletmammet Azady, and the Institute of international relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan.
The top eight participants who took first and second place in the qualifying round will be invited to the final. The final round will be held in a one-on-one duel format with direct elimination.
The final and awards ceremony are scheduled for the 4th of April. The final events will take place at the Institute of international relations of the MFA of Turkmenistan.
The organisers are confident that the competitions will become a platform for self-expression, exchange of experiences, and creative growth for participants.
The competitions held annually as part of International Francophonie day aim to increase interest in the French language among the youth of Turkmenistan, promote the French language, support young talent, and develop and strengthen Turkmen-French cultural and educational relations.
