UNDP Representative Elena Panova takes part in the opening of waterway in Kaahka etrap

15-km waterway Hyvaabat – Kaahka was ceremonially opened in Kaahka etrap. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management, the United nations Development Programme (UNDP), velayat and etrap administration and non-governmental organizations took part in the ceremony.

The water system, built by Dew General Trading from UAE and local Galkan Business Entity with the support of the UNDP and application of energy saving and ecological technologies, would allow regulating the distribution of water in three directions: agriculture, drinking and general consumption. More than 14,000 cubic meters of water (16.5 litres per second) will be delivered daily to local water supply system from Layinsuv River.

The participants of event on occasion of the opening of new facility noted that rational use of water resources is the key direction of the state policy. Protection and reclamation of water and other natural resources, combating against the desertification, land degradation and climate change are among the priorities of international cooperation of Turkmenistan. Quite number of programmes and projects are realized on national and regional levels together with the UN Development Programme, UN Environmental Programme, Global Ecological Fund and other competent structures.

In this regard, the UN Permanent Coordinator, the UNDP Representative Elena Panova appreciated the level of fruitful cooperation with our country, having highlighted that Turkmenistan is rich with natural resources and it is important to use it rationally to protect for future generation.
