Turkmenistan to Widely Celebrate World Health Day

Mass health and wellness events are being prepared in Turkmenistan for World Health Day, observed globally on April 7. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister B. Mammedov at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday.

As noted in the report, in order to promote the principles of an active lifestyle in society, widely engage the younger generation in sports, strengthen public health, and popularize physical culture and sports, mass cycling races and various events will be organized.

In addition, from April 1 to 7, scientific and practical conferences, educational, sports, wellness, and cultural events are planned in the velayats of the country, as well as in the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag. Competitions in various sports and ceremonial sporting events will be held with the participation of pupils of general secondary schools, students of higher and vocational educational institutions, employees of institutions and enterprises, and athletes.

After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of World Health Day for actively promoting healthy lifestyle standards in society and developing sports. In this regard, the head of state instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to ensure proper preparation for holding sports, health events, and mass cycling races at a high level on the occasion of World Health Day.

World Health Day has been observed since 1950 on April 7—the date marking the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1948. Today, the organization has 194 member states, including Turkmenistan.

The main idea of World Health Day is to remind people of the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle: following the principles of proper nutrition, avoiding harmful habits and overcoming addictions, and engaging in regular physical activity.
