The Russian film festival is taking place in Ashgabat

From 27th to 29th of March, the Russian film festival is taking place in Ashgabat, at the cinema of the «Arkach» Shopping and entertainment complex. The program opened with the family film «Pinocchio» (2025), a new adaptation of famous fairy tale of Alexey Tolstoy, directed by Igor Voloshin.

At the opening of the film marathon, it was noted that the capital of Turkmenistan has for several years become a meeting place for audiences to experience contemporary Russian cinema.

«I sincerely welcome you to the opening of the Russian film festival in beautiful and hospitable Ashgabat. I am sincerely glad that we have developed such a good tradition. In this regard, I would like to express my gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, for their continued support of our humanitarian initiatives, which contribute to strengthening cultural dialogue and friendly relations between the fraternal peoples of Russia and Turkmenistan», − emphasised in his welcoming speech Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin.

The festival was organised by «Roskino» with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan.

This year, the event, which unites the cultures of the two countries, will feature exclusively new Russian films:

«Doctor Dinosaurov» (2025), directed by Maxim Volkov. A fascinating animated film about the adventures of schoolboy Phil Dinosaurov.

«Treasures of the dwarves» (2025), directed by Alexander Babayev and Vasiliy Rovenskiy. A fantasy story about the adventurer Roman, who, in pursuit of the inheritance of a neighbour in the country, unexpectedly becomes the owner of a house with live dwarves.

«The Frog Princess» (2025), directed by Alexander Amirov. A colourful family film offering a new look at the classic plot of a Russian folk tale.
