A landmark event in the logistics sector took place in Turkmenistan: President Serdar Berdimuhamedov officially opened the Mary-Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway. The launch marked the full completion of the highway, which connects the capital with the eastern region of the country.
Speaking at the ceremony, the head of state emphasised that modernising road infrastructure is a key element of strategy of Turkmenistan. The country is actively developing transport diplomacy, becoming a key hub on the international stage.
«The implementation of such large-scale projects in the first year of the United Nations Decade of sustainable transport demonstrates our successes, which are being achieved with the speed of a horse. Since ancient times, an important section of the Great Silk Road, which once united continents, ran through the territory of our country. We are currently making every effort to restore this route in a modern format. In this context, the construction of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway is also of great importance», − said President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
The total length of the route was 600 kilometres. The project was implemented in stages: the Ashgabat-Tejen and Tejen-Mary sections were commissioned earlier. The new highway is a six-lane road that fully complies with international quality and safety standards, providing direct connectivity between the Ahal, Mary, and Lebap velayats.
Particular pride is also expressed by the fact that the construction was carried out by domestic businesses, companies that are members of the Union of industrialists and entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The launch of the road will significantly reduce travel time for passengers and freight carriers, improve the quality of logistics services, and provide a powerful impetus to the economic development of the regions. Now the transport system of the country will operate much more efficiently, serving as a strategic hub between states and continents.
