These days, staff at the Dashoguz branch of the Research institute of cotton growing of the Ministry of agriculture of Turkmenistan are conducting targeted work to develop new cotton varieties adapted to the weather and climate conditions of the velayat. This year, they submitted seeds and all necessary documentation for the new cotton varieties «Dashoguz-11» and «Dashoguz-12» to the relevant structure of the Ministry for variety testing.

– These varieties continue the range of medium fibre varieties of Dashoguz cotton that we have developed, – says the head of the department of Dashoguz velayat, Ch. Seyitmyradov. – We strive to improve the quality of cotton grown in the region and create high-yielding varieties that are most adapted to the local soil and weather conditions. The new varieties will have higher yields, fibre yield, and fibre quality.

Cotton farming is one of the main branches of agricultural production in the velayat. Thanks to the successful implementation of government projects, a full cycle has been created here, starting from breeding and seed production, to processing the produced raw materials into final products.

As a result of the consistent increase in the industrial potential of the region based on the processing of local raw materials, a number of high-performance cotton gins are now successfully operating, including a new modern specialised enterprise for processing seed cotton with a capacity of 40 thousand tons of products per year with a cotton receiving terminal for the one-time storage of 10 thousand tons of raw cotton in the Koneurgench etrap.

Three large cotton spinning mills are successfully operating in the velayat, regularly supplying their products to both the domestic and foreign markets, the «Cheper» sewing factory of the Ministry of textile industry of Turkmenistan, and an enterprise for the production of sterile dressings using products from the cotton industry and some private industries.
