Nine athletes will represent Turkmenistan at the weightlifting world junior championships-2026, which starts today in Ismailia, Egypt. Five girls will compete in the women's tournament, and four boys will compete in the men's tournament, the International weightlifting federation (IWF) announced.
The competition will take place in the Suez Canal Authority club hall.
In the women's part of our team, Ogulshat Amanova and Shabnam Kerimbayeva (weight category up to 53 kg), Medine Amanova (up to 63 kg), Asal Kerimbayeva (up to 77 kg) and Anamjan Rustamova (up to 86 kg) will compete for medals. In the men's half of the team, Didarbek Jumabayev (up to 79 kg), Islam Akmyradov (up to 94 kg), Suleyman Jafarov (up to 110 kg) and Saparbay Atajanov (over 110 kg) will take to the Egyptian platform.
Last year, at the World junior championships in Lima, Peru, the Turkmenistan team took 14th place in the team standings with two gold medals. These top awards in the clean and jerk (141 kg) and the combined total (249 kg) were won by Anamjan Rustamova in the 87 kg weight category.
