From May 8 to 9, 2026, as part of the visit of the delegation of Turkmenistan to Phnom Penh, a number of meetings were held between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan A.Gurbanov and the representatives of the Government, as well as business circles of the Kingdom of Cambodia. During the meeting with the Permanent Secretary of State and Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia Eat Sophea, the sides noted with satisfaction the high level of organization of the first political consultations between the foreign ministries. It was emphasized that these consultations are a logical continuation of previously reached agreements and are intended to provide impetus to the diversification of interstate relations.

The interlocutors discussed in detail issues of the development of partnership in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Special attention was paid to the activation of regular political dialogue, the strengthening of contacts at the governmental and parliamentary levels, as well as the expansion of the contractual-legal base. The sides also spoke in favor of strengthening interaction on the sidelines of reputable international organizations, primarily the UN, through mutual support of initiatives aimed at ensuring global peace and sustainable development.

Prospects for building up economic interaction became the main theme of the meeting with the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Cambodia Neak Oknha Kith Meng. The Turkmen side emphasized the significance of establishing direct business contacts between the entrepreneurs of the two countries. In this regard, it was proposed to activate cooperation through the organization of business forums, trade missions, and thematic online meetings.

As priority directions, the development of digital trade, regular exchange of delegations of entrepreneurs and participation in international exhibitions, the organization of presentations of the export potential of the two countries, interaction in the sphere of small and medium business, and the establishment of ties between free economic zones and industrial clusters were designated.

Within the framework of the visit, a meeting also took place with the Minister of Tourism of Cambodia Huot Hak. The sides discussed possibilities for the implementation of joint projects in the tourism industry, viewing it as an important tool for the rapprochement of peoples. The exchange of experience in the management of tourist objects and the popularization of the cultural-historical heritage of the two countries on the international arena were also among the topics discussed. With the aim of advancing the cooperation in the sphere of tourism, the sides agreed on the development and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the field of Tourism.

In completion of the meetings, the sides confirmed the commitment of Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Cambodia to long-term and trustful partnership.
