Avaza – A Center of International Dialogue: Turkmenistan Prepares for the 2026 Summits

During the off-site meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers chaired by President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, key directions for the country’s socio-economic development were outlined, and plans for holding major international forums in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone were reviewed.

As the chairing country of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in 2026, Turkmenistan continues its active work to strengthen ties within the CIS region. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported on preparations for a number of key meetings.

In particular, the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan is scheduled for October 8, 2026, while the next meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS will take place on October 9. Ahead of the summits, meetings of the foreign ministers of the participating countries will be held to coordinate the final agendas.

The “Avaza” National Tourist Zone continues to confirm its status as a platform for global initiatives under the auspices of the United Nations. Important forums are set to take place there in October of this year. Among them are the International Women’s Dialogue on “The Role of Women in Maintaining Peace and Achieving Sustainable Development,” a conference on demographics focused on modern challenges and international experience in the context of sustainable development, and a seminar of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations dedicated to universal access to healthcare services.

Special attention in the development strategy of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Hero-Arkadag is given to preserving the region’s natural heritage. In this area as well, the program of events will be extensive. On October 7, a meeting of the ministers of the Caspian states will be held, aimed at addressing pressing environmental issues concerning the Caspian Sea. In the field of water security, a high-level meeting of the countries of the region and Afghanistan is planned to discuss the preservation and rational use of Central Asia’s water resources.

The upcoming events in “Avaza” are intended to demonstrate Turkmenistan’s commitment to the principles of peace, good-neighborly relations, and active participation in addressing today’s global challenges.
