On May 11, 2026, President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow, received the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Political Affairs to the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican, as well as the President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Petronas, Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik, and the company’s Chief Production Officer, Executive Vice President, and CEO of Exploration and Production, Mohd Jukris Abdul Wahab.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that developing relations with Malaysia is one of the priority areas of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. Cooperation between the two countries continues to be based on the principles of mutual respect and equality.

At present, Turkmenistan and Malaysia are effectively cooperating in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres. In this context, President Serdar Berdimuhamedow highlighted the special importance of high-level meetings and mutual visits in strengthening interstate ties.

A key area of Turkmen-Malaysian relations is trade and economic partnership. Positive experience in utilizing the mutual potential for cooperation in this field has been accumulated with Petronas.

Noting that this year marks the 30th anniversary of bilateral cooperation, President Serdar Berdimuhamedow emphasized the impressive results of their joint work. During this period, Petronas has actively participated in projects related to hydrocarbon production in Turkmenistan, the development of the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea, and the training of highly qualified specialists for the country’s oil and gas industry.

As part of the current visit of the Malaysian delegation to Turkmenistan, a Protocol on Commercial Terms is expected to be signed between the State Concern “Türkmennebit” and “Petronas Carigali (Turkmenistan) Sdn. Bhd.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedow and the representatives of Malaysia exchanged best wishes and expressed confidence in the further development of effective partnership for the benefit of the friendly peoples of both countries.
