On May 20, 2026, Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Korea Begench Durdyyev attended a meeting with the Minister of Intellectual Property of the Republic of Korea Kim Yong-sun at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul. The meeting also brought together Ambassadors of other Central Asian countries and focused on developing intellectual property (IP) cooperation between Korea and the region. Minister Kim Yong-sun highlighted South Korea's experience in building IP as a driver of economic growth, noting that the country ranks 4-th among the world's leading patent offices. He described the meeting as a first step toward building what he called an “IP Silk Road” between Korea and Central Asia, underlining that the combination of the region's natural resources with Korea's technological expertise offers strong potential for mutually beneficial cooperation.
Ambassador B.Durdyyev thanked the Korean side for organizing the meeting and underlined that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the upcoming Summit. He welcomed the Korean initiative on IP cooperation with Central Asian states, emphasizing that intellectual property is the foundation of an innovation-driven economy, a means of protecting national developments and traditions, and a guarantee of fair competition.
The meeting reflected the steady progress in Turkmenistan-Korea bilateral relations and Turkmenistan's active engagement in the regional dialogue with Korea ahead of the landmark Summit.
