On behalf of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) I extend congratulations to Turkmenistan on the outstanding leadership role played in initiating the World Bicycle Day, and I express my admiration for the scope of the diplomatic work conducted to unite 193 member states of the United Nations to adopt the Resolution declaring 3 June World Bicycle Day, states the letter by the President of the Union Cycliste Internationale, David Lappartient.

Celebrating this inaugural event will reemphasize the social and environmental benefits of cycling, and UCI will continue supporting this process.

We are delighted to join our partners around the globe in promoting the World Bicycle Day, and we will continue working with our 190 National Federations and 5 Continental Confederations to help establish the cycling culture to enable citizens of all ages and physical capacities to participate and enjoy cycling. We will further enhance our collaboration in building safe cycling infrastructures in cities.

We hope that the World Bicycle Day will become an annual milestone to launch new initiatives within Cycling for All and increase the level of collaboration with such international organizations as the UN.

We trust that people will be healthier in a favorable environment, if they use bicycles for exercise, as a leisure activity and mode of transport to commute to work.

I reiterate to you my gratitude for offering a framework to promote cycling and popular biking, states the message.
