On the occasion of the World Bicycle Day, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Uzbekistan jointly with the Cycling Federation of the Republic of Uzbekistan organized a bike ride that brought together the heads and specialists of the diplomatic missions accredited in Uzbekistan and the representatives of the international organisations, the Cycling Federation and the Ministry of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan as well as the citizens and guests to Tashkent and mass media.
The bike ride got off Magtymguly Fragi Street in the centre of Tashkent and finished in Ashgabat Park that hosted festive events.
Addressing those present, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Shiri Shiriev noted that due to the patronage of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the complex measures are taken place in the country in order to develop the world-class sports and popularize physical culture and sports among the younger generation. It was emphasized that a bicycle race and track-and-field cross-country race “Amul-Hazar” were organized in our country in the year of 2018, the motto of which is “Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road”. The international motor rally will run along this route in September, and the Weightlifting World Championship will be held in the country in Ashgabat in October.
UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Uzbekistan, Helena Fraser underlined that the adoption of the resolution declaring June 3rd as the World Bicycle Day during the 72nd Regular Session of the UN General Assembly testified to the undisputed recognition of our country's initiatives on developing sports and popularizing the principles of healthy life-style. It was also underlined the environmental aspect of promoting the cycling culture.
The Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan expressed satisfaction with the development of the Turkmen-Uzbek dialogue in the sphere of sports and youth affairs.
The festivity finished with the concert of masters of arts of Uzbekistan.
