From January to May of this year, sportsmen from Turkmenistan won 301 medals at international competitions. This was announced by deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B. Mammedov at a government meeting where the results of socio-economic development of the country for the first five months of 2026 were summed up.

It was noted that during the period under review, measures aimed at developing physical education and sports and training professional sportsmen continued to be implemented. Turkmen athletes demonstrated high results at international competitions, winning 132 medals in May. In this way, over the first five months of this year, the total medal tally of the Turkmenistan national team has increased to 301.

After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the importance of properly organising the activities of science, education, healthcare, and sports. In this context, the head of state ordered continued efforts to stimulate interest of talented youth in science, education, and new technologies, improve the performance of healthcare institutions, and actively engage the younger generation in sports.
