This year, potatoes were planted on 8,800 hectares in the Dashoguz velayat of Turkmenistan. Today, farmers in the «10 ýyl Abadanlyk» dayhan association in Boldumsaz etrap, where the crop is grown on 345 hectares, have already begun harvesting and intend to achieve a record harvest of «earth apple». The «G. Atamedow» dayhan association occupies a slightly smaller area under this crop; however, they intend to harvest at least 840 tons of potatoes.
The harvest is also being collected at a rapid pace in the S. Turkmenbashy etrap, where potatoes have been grown on five hundred hectares this year. And here, farmers expect to harvest at least one hundred and forty centners from each hectare and prepare more than seven thousand tons of valuable produce. No less rich experience in potato cultivation has also been accumulated in a number of other peasant associations of the etrap, where they traditionally successfully cope with the planned procurement tasks.
It should be noted that in recent years, the agrarians of rhe velayat have achieved good results annually by selecting the most suitable areas for planting high-yielding, disease-resistant, and easy-to-care-for potato varieties, as well as by using water resources wisely. Regional specialists give preference to crop varieties that have proven themselves well in local soil and climatic conditions.
