High-level talks were held in the capital of Azerbaijan between the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in the country on a state visit, and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. The leaders of the two countries discussed key aspects of bilateral cooperation and confirmed their readiness to expand their partnership in the energy sector.
Thus, one of the main issues of the negotiations was strengthening cooperation in the electric power sector. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed readiness of Turkmenistan to organise electricity supplies to Azerbaijan. The construction of a new power plant with a capacity of 1,574 MW, which is currently underway on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian sea, was noted as a material and technical basis for increasing export potential.
During the meeting, the parties also praised the current level of interstate dialogue, noting the successful development of close ties in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
