Many years ago, when Ahmet Myradovich Penjiyev was just embarking on a scientific career, his family and friends were somewhat skeptical about his choice. One of the reasons for doubt was that his career ladder as a young and promising Komsomol-party official was developing quite successfully. For three years he headed the Komsomol organisation of the Academy of sciences of Turkmenistan, then for two years he worked in one of the leading departments of the Proletarian district party committee.
The doubts and skepticism of his relatives did not diminish when Ahmet Penjiyev, leaving his career as a civil servant, came as a junior research fellow to the SPA «Solntse» of the AST and began growing... coffee. This time, the reason for the confusion of those around him was his choice of the topic for his PhD dissertation – «Development, creation and research of a trench-type solar greenhouse for growing coffee trees», and this was in 1987. It is a time of total food shortages in the country, is it time for coffee?! The subsequent course of A. Penjiyev’s life repeatedly demonstrated such paradoxical zigzags. While continuing to develop methods for growing coffee in Turkmenistan, Ahmet Myradovich simultaneously became interested in the then-promising issues of computing and biomechanics. This is how he ended up at the National institute of sports and tourism of Turkmenistan (now the Turkmen state institute of physical education and sports), where he first worked as a teacher and then as the head of the department of «fundamentals of computer science and biomechanics».
Despite the ability of many scientists to be passionate about various types of scientific activity, A. Penjiyev is distinguished by the fact that he always brings his research to its logical conclusion. Thus, the «story» of coffee cultivation ended with the development of trench-type solar greenhouse models that make it possible to carry out the plan. The result of studying this issue was the defence of dissertation of a candidate on the topic «Development, creation and research of a trench-type solar greenhouse for growing coffee trees». The result of work of the Penjiyev at the Institute of sports and tourism was a thorough scientific work on training athletes through specialised biomechanical exercises using testing methods.
The keen interest of Ahmet Myradovich in new scientific fields such as biomechanics and computer engineering, and his background as a physicist (he graduated from the physics department of the Turkmen state university in 1978, specialising in «thermal physics»), led him to the department of industrial automation at the Turkmen polytechnic institute (since 2012, the Turkmen state institute of architecture and construction). Here, in addition to teaching, Penjiyev writes and publishes numerous scientific papers on renewable energy sources. In total, he is the author of more than 800 scientific articles, brochures, books, monographs, textbooks, teaching aids and the holder of 9 certificates of author. At a recent ceremonial meeting to mark Science Day, A. Penjiyev was awarded a Certificate of doctor of technical sciences by the Higher attestation commission of Turkmenistan.
Ahmet Penjiyev is the recipient of numerous prizes and awards, including the Lenin Komsomol Prize in Science and Technology for his work in renewable energy (1991); the title of Honoured trainer of Turkmenistan (2005) for his scientific and methodological work in training athletes using biomechanical exercise testing methods; and the medal «Watana bolan söýgüsi üçin» («For love of the Fatherland») by the Decree of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov for special services to the independent state and his people, as well as for educating and nurturing young people in the spirit of boundless love and devotion to the Fatherland.
