Turkmen weightlifters will compete at the 2026 World Youth Championships in Colombia

Seven sportsmen will represent Turkmenistan at the World Youth Championships (U17) starting today in the Colombian city of Cali.

Kerem Gurbandurdyyev and Atabek Azamatov (weight category up to 60 kg), Shahin Hudaybergenov (up to 65 kg) and Davut Kakageldiyev (up to 79 kg) will compete in the boys competition.

Shabnam Kerimbayeva and Ogulshat Amanova (up to 53 kg), as well as Gulzada Berdimuhammedova (up to 58 kg) will take part in the girls tournament.

At World Youth Championships of the last year, which took place in Lima, Peru, the Turkmenistan team, represented by four athletes, won ten medals – 7 silver and 3 bronze. Kakamyrat Annamyradov from the Sakarchagin etrap of the Mary velayat, Didarbek Jumabayev from the «Olimp» sports school, and Islam Akmyradov from Mary each brought our team three medals.

Kakamyrat Annamyradov won bronze in the snatch (130 kg) and two silver medals in the clean and jerk (160 kg) and the combined total (290 kg) in the 73 kg weight category.

Didarbek Jumabayev won three silver medals – in the snatch (137 kg), clean and jerk (168 kg) and the combined total (305 kg) – in the 81 kg weight category, in which 15 weightlifters competed.

Islam Akmyradov excelled in the 96 kg weight category, where 7 weightlifters competed for medals. He won silver in the snatch (141 kg), bronze in the clean and jerk (175 kg), and silver in the total (316 kg).

Another representative of the Turkmenistan team, Ogulshat Amanova, a student at Secondary School No. 104 in the Byuzmein district of Ashgabat, won a bronze medal in the clean and jerk (101 kg) in the up to 55 kilogram weight category, in which 16 athletes competed. However, in the snatch she showed the sixth result (79 kg) and took fourth place in the total of two exercises (180 kg), 2 kg behind the bronze medalist Nicoleta Cojocaru (Moldova) - 182 kg (82 + 100).
