The planting of mung beans is currently in full swing across the Dashoguz velayat. Particularly high work rates are being maintained in the Saparmyrat Turkmenbashi etrap, which is one of the velayat’s largest producers of this crop. A significant contribution to mung bean production is made by the “Ashyr Kakabayev” and “Yalkym” Daikhan Associations. To date, mung beans have already been planted on most of the land allocated for the crop in the etrap. As elsewhere in the region, the planting of cowpeas has also been completed within a short period.
Farmers in the Shavat etrap are also carrying out this important agricultural campaign in an organized manner. A total of 800 hectares has been allocated there for mung bean cultivation, with the largest area—87 hectares—to be planted by the “Medeniyet” Daikhan Association.
Overall, the velayat is one of the country's leading producers of legume crops. Every year, the region grows and harvests abundant yields of these crops, which are of great importance for food security and contribute to improving soil fertility. Legumes require relatively little water, are highly drought-resistant, and, thanks to their short growing season, can be cultivated as a second crop following the wheat harvest. The average yield of legume crops in the region is 1.5 tons per hectare.
Given the extensive areas allocated to their cultivation in the region, mung beans and cowpeas now play an important role in supplying the local consumer market with high-quality, nutritious agricultural products.
