A memorial ceremony and a thematic photo exhibition were held at the Cultural centre of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Turkmenistan to mark Türkiye Democracy and National Unity Day. The exhibition and commemorative events were dedicated to the historical events of 15th of July, 2016.

Ten years ago, tragic events took the lives of 253 Turkish citizens in Ankara and Istanbul. In October of that year, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan established Democracy and National Unity Day to commemorate the heroism of his compatriots and the memory of their national heroes.

The memorial evening at the Cultural centre began with a moment of silence. Guests also watched a documentary film and visited a photo exhibition featuring the work of Turkish photojournalists who captured moments of popular resistance and the defense of democracy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Türkiye to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok emphasised the heroic defense of the constitutional order and centuries-old achievements of Turkish people. The diplomat expressed his sincere gratitude to fraternal Turkmenistan, which, in those difficult times, followed the principles of solidarity and good-neighborliness and supported Turkish society.

«I take this opportunity to express my deep gratitude to the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the esteemed Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the President of Turkmenistan, the esteemed Serdar Berdimuhamedov, for their consistent support. We sincerely believe that Turkmenistan will continue to act in solidarity with its brothers in Türkiye. Shoulder to shoulder, guided by the motto «One People, Two States», we stand united against all forms of terrorism. I honour with deep respect the memory of the heroes of 15th of July, who gave their lives for the independence of our country, and I express my sincere gratitude to our veterans, wishing them long life and prosperity», – the diplomat noted.
