During January–July of this year, Turkmenistan's athletes won 471 medals at international competitions. This was reported by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers B. Mammedov at a Government meeting reviewing the country's socio-economic development over the first seven months of 2026.

It was noted that during the reporting period, efforts were carried out to develop physical education and sports, as well as to train professional athletes. Demonstrating strong performances at major international competitions, Turkmen athletes won 56 medals in July. As a result, the total medal tally of Turkmenistan's national teams reached 471 medals over the first seven months of the year.

After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of ensuring effective work in the fields of science and education, healthcare, and sports. At the same time, particular emphasis was placed on the need to improve the quality of teaching and to continue the consistent modernization of the healthcare system. The head of state also instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to pay special attention to the development of sports.
