This year, farmers in the Dashoguz velayat planted sesame on 560 hectares of farmland. Thanks to the high level of organization of this important agricultural campaign, planting was completed within the optimal timeframe. The region's main producers of this oilseed crop are traditionally the Kunyaurgench and S. Turkmenbashi etraps, where 140 hectares have been allocated to sesame cultivation in each district. Slightly smaller areas—125 hectares—have been planted by farmers in the Akdepe etrap. Farmers in these etraps have extensive experience in cultivating sesame and consistently achieve high yields every year.

Sesame is a heat- and light-loving crop that develops well under high temperatures. It is drought-resistant and requires less water than many other agricultural crops. These characteristics, together with its relatively low soil requirements and short growing season, make it well suited for large-scale cultivation under the local climatic conditions. Farmers in the velayat harvest 10 centners per hectare annually.

There is hardly any need to recall the numerous beneficial properties of this plant. Suffice it to say that the residents of the velayat believe that sesame oil is in no way inferior to other oils and is simply indispensable for preparing authentic pilaf.
