Turkmen students triumphantly performed at the 33rd International Mathematical Olympiad IMC-2026, which was held from the 27th of July to the 3rd of August in the city of Blagoevgrad, Republic of Bulgaria.
The Olympiad is organised jointly by University College London (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) and the American University (Bulgaria).
At the prestigious competition, students from Turkmenistan represented their country with distinction, confidently demonstrating their brilliant knowledge of mathematics and winning well-deserved awards. In total, successful performance of our students brought them 9 medals – 6 gold and 3 silver.
The national team included students from the Turkmen state university named after Magtymguly, the International university of humanities and development, the International oil and gas university named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev, the Turkmen state institute of economics and management, the Turkmen state institute of architecture and construction, the Turkmen state pedagogical institute named after Seyitnazar Seydi, and the State energy institute of Turkmenistan.
The Olympiad was held in English in two rounds, in each of which participants were asked to solve five problems of increased difficulty. The tasks covered key areas of science: mathematical analysis, linear and abstract algebra, functional analysis, analytical geometry, combinatorics and number theory.
The success of Turkmen students at the IMC-2026 International Olympiad once again vividly demonstrated the broad intellectual potential of our youth, the excellent level of training of future specialists, and the high quality of national education.
The IMC (International Mathematics Competition for University Students) has been held since 1994 and is one of the most prestigious international mathematical competitions, annually bringing together hundreds of the strongest, most gifted, and talented mathematicians from dozens of countries around the world.
This year, approximately 450 university students from 47 countries took part in the Olympiad, including the USA, Russia, England, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, China, Iran, India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Singapore, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Poland, Romania, South Africa, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand, Algeria, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and other countries.
