Foreign Minister of Romania highlights important role of Turkmenistan in Central Asia
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Theodor Meshkanu.

Having expressed the gratitude for spared time, the guest conveyed the greetings of the President of Romania Claus Werner Johannis who addressed the wishes of wellbeing and prosperity to all Turkmen people. At the same time, invariable interest of Romania in further improvement of fruitful relations with Turkmenistan has been highlighted.

Having expressed the gratitude for warm words, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated with delight the dynamic character of traditionally friendly Turkmen – Romanian cooperation, which is built on equal and long-term basis. Having conveyed return greetings to the President of Romania, Turkmen leader noted that the relations between two countries are successfully developed both in bilateral format and under competent international organizations and structures including the cooperation with the European Union, which has been significantly activated.

Later in the meeting, the sides exchanged the opinions on the perspectives of Turkmen – Romanian cooperation. The Head of the State and his guest noted the presence of big potential for diversification and intensification of efficient cooperation in all spectrums both in trade and economic spheres as well as in humanitarian and cultural field.

Energy and transport and communication sector where Turkmenistan makes important initiatives regarding the formation of international transit and transport corridors providing optimal economic routes for cargo traffic have been mentioned among priority direction of the partnership. For example, opening of new Turkmenbashy International Seaport with super modern logistic infrastructure gave wide opportunities for activation of beneficial trade and economic relations in Eurasian continent including between the countries of Caspian and Black Sea region.

It was highlighted that bilateral foreign ministries consultations held on regular basis support comprehensive improvement of constructive interstate dialog. Important role is given to joint Intergovernmental Turkmen – Romanian Commission on economic, scientific and technical cooperation, which activity is to support the intensification of beneficial contacts in different spheres.

At the same time, the intent of the business circles of Romania to expand their presence in perspective Turkmen market with favourable investment climate has been highlighted. Large-scale social and economic programmes, course toward active integration to modern world economy stipulate growing interest of leading Romanian and other European companies in cooperation with our country.

Having touched upon the subject of cooperation in humanitarian sphere, the Head of the State and his guest spoke for further stimulation of fruitful contacts in education and culture.

Topical issues of international politics related mainly to the provision of peace, security and sustainable development in regional and global scale have been discussed during the meeting. In this regard, the Head of Foreign policy department of Romania has mentioned important role of Turkmenistan, which is reliable partner of the UN in solution of urgent issues of the presence in Central Asia, one of strategic regions of the planet.

In the end, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romani Theodor Mekeshkanu expressed the confidence that traditional dialog of friendship and beneficial partnership between two countries would continue developing successfully receiving new content.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Turkmenistan Sorin Vasile Moldovan has taken part in the meeting.

On the same day, Minster of Foreign Affairs of Romania Theodor Meleshkanu was received in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. Further development of inter-parliamentarian relations as integral part of consolidation of relations of friendship and understanding between the nations of two country has been discussed at the meeting.
