On 6 August 2026, a conference was held at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Azerbaijan dedicated to the significance of the upcoming session of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, as well as to the United Nations General Assembly Resolution entitled "International Year of International Law, 2028", adopted at the initiative of Turkmenistan. The event was attended by professors and researchers from the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Turkmen students studying in the Republic of Azerbaijan, representatives of the mass media, and members of the Turkmen diaspora.
During the conference, it was noted that the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan is the highest representative body of the people's authority, whose activities are aimed at improving the system of public administration, developing democratic institutions, strengthening socio-political stability, and promoting the country's sustainable socio-economic development.
It was also emphasized that the next session of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan will be held on 23 September this year, during which the country's achievements and milestones will be reviewed, the results of the work accomplished will be summarized and priorities for future development will be discussed.
The participants were also informed about the initiative of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to proclaim 2028 as the International Year of International Law. It was highlighted that the corresponding resolution was adopted by consensus by the United Nations General Assembly with the co-sponsorship of 78 Member States.
This was described as clear evidence of the broad international support for Turkmenistan's initiatives aimed at strengthening the rule of international law, promoting constructive international dialogue, and advancing the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.
