Japan and Turkmenistan are focused on developing cooperation in the field of circular economy

Japan expresses strong interest in developing partnerships with Turkmenistan in the field of the circular economy and waste recycling. Toshihiro Kitamura, general director for Press and Public Relations at the MFA of Japan, stated this during a briefing for media representatives.

The meeting with journalists took place in Ashgabat as part of the working visit of minister of foreign affairs of Japan Toshimitsu Motegi. In response to a question from a correspondent from «GA» about the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in the field of green technologies, a representative of the Japanese foreign ministry noted that, at present, there are no specific joint projects in the field of circular economy, but this area has significant potential.

«Japan is a country with limited natural resources, so we are putting significant effort into waste recycling and have extensive experience, advanced knowledge, and technologies in this area», – Toshihiro Kitamura emphasised.

The speaker stated that Turkmenistan, in turn, has abundant natural resources. According to him, combining the strengths of the two states will make it possible to create an effective model of mutually beneficial partnership.

A representative of the MFA of Japan also added that Japanese private businesses are showing great interest in this sector, and the government of the country is counting on a productive advancement of the dialogue. The discussion of these issues at the governmental level has become one of the key topics during the current visit of the head of foreign policy agency of Japan to Turkmenistan.
