Turkmenistan has established a scientifically based system for the breeding and health monitoring of Akhal-Teke horses, while horse breeding itself has become a solid foundation for the country’s development and international cooperation. This was stated by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, while speaking at the World Championship of Equestrian Sports and Beauty Contest among Akhal-Teke Horses in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized that preserving the breed is a major state priority and a historical duty of the nation. As evidence of the success of the reforms carried out, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted the key results achieved in recent years.

Modern equestrian complexes have been built in all the velayats of the country, while the International Akhal-Teke Equestrian Complex in Ashgabat has become a world-class scientific and practical centre.

DNA testing has been introduced to monitor the purity of the breed, and a unified electronic database has been established.

The International Association of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding, based in Ashgabat, brings together specialists from dozens of countries.

The Art of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding and Traditions of Horses’ Decoration have been officially inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
