St. Petersburg and Ashgabat strengthen cooperation: a delegation from northern capital of Russia visits Turkmenistan

Vice-governor of St. Petersburg (Russian Federation) Vladimir Omelnitsky made a working visit to Turkmenistan. The itinerary of the trip included a flower-laying ceremony at the «Halk hakydasy» (People's memory) memorial complex in Ashgabat, a meeting with a resident of Leningrad during the siege, and a series of business talks dedicated to the development of bilateral cooperation.

During the visit, members of the St. Petersburg delegation honored the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic war. Vladimir Omelnitsky expressed deep gratitude to the Turkmen people for the support provided to the evacuated Leningraders.

During the war, Turkmenistan accepted about 32 thousand residents of Leningrad and its environs. Despite the food shortages of wartime, local residents shared everything they needed with the new arrivals.

«I would like to convey to the entire Turkmen people words of gratitude for the warmth with which the evacuated residents of Leningrad were received. These are people who have found their second home here. We remember this and highly appreciate this support», – the vice governor emphasised.

A significant part of the trip was a meeting with Galina Mamedova, a survivor of the siege of Ashgabat who lives in Ashgabat. She noted the constant attention and comprehensive care provided to veterans by both Russia and the leadership of Turkmenistan.

«It so happened that my heart remained in Leningrad, and my soul in Ashgabat. My health is normal for my age, we can overcome everything. The support of my native country, Russia, and my homeland, Turkmenistan, is very important to me. The support of our esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who cares deeply about us veterans, is very important to me. We have many benefits, we are never forgotten, they are interested in our well-being and give us gifts. We are not alone, kindness and care lift our spirits and strengthen our health. I want to go on living», – said Galina Alekseyevna.

At the direction of St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov, negotiations covering key areas of cooperation were held in relevant departments of Turkmenistan.

Thus, the supply of pharmaceutical products and equipment for the new International medical centres in Ashgabat was discussed. It was proposed to organise online seminars using artificial intelligence technologies to exchange experiences between doctors from St. Petersburg and Turkmenistan.

«Cooperation in the field of medical services and pharmaceutical equipment for the excellent medical institutions built in Ashgabat was discussed. They are equipped with the most modern equipment, and we offered the opportunity to conduct online seminars using artificial intelligence to share experiences, as highly qualified professionals work in medical institutions in Turkmenistan and St. Petersburg. We have accumulated colossal experience in maintaining health. We have something to exchange, and we are ready for such a dialogue», – said Vladimir Omelnitsky.

At the same time, issues of organising tours of St. Petersburg theatres, as well as holding exchange museum exhibitions and displays in Ashgabat, were discussed. In the economic sphere, steps have been outlined to expand trade and economic ties.

Vladimir Omelnitsky expressed gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and the Government of the country for their warm hospitality and constructive approach to developing bilateral dialogue.
