Autumn Premieres on the Theatre Stage

The new theatre season, which opened this autumn, has prepared several premieres for audiences, all of which will be presented to the public as early as the coming weekend.

The Alp Arslan National Drama Theatre will host the premiere performances of «Halk Hakydasy» («People’s Memory»), based on a work by the Turkmen playwright and writer Gadam Kakabayev. The dramatic production tells of the tragic events of the Ashgabat earthquake, which occurred on the night of 5–6 October 1948. The production is directed by Handurdy Berdiyev, Honoured Artist of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen State Puppet Theatre will delight young theatre enthusiasts with the premiere of the musical fairy tale «Dostluk mukamy» («The Melody of Friendship»). At the centre of the story are the adventures of some hapless forest dwellers. Taking turns trying to take possession of a musical instrument, they argue among themselves and are unable to make it produce a sound. Eventually, the characters come to the conclusion that they can bring the instrument to life only by joining their efforts. The literary work is by Maksat Altayev, and the production is directed by Batyr Gurbanov.
