A ceremony was held at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Turkmenistan to present admission notifications to Turkmen applicants who successfully gained admission to Chinese universities under the state scholarship program. The event brought together prospective students and their parents, marking an important step in their lives and symbolizing the strengthening ties between the two countries.
Opening the meeting, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the PRC to Turkmenistan, Ji Shumin, warmly congratulated the young people and emphasized that this training would open up vast prospects for them. China harmoniously combines the status of a great ancient civilisation with the role of a global leader in innovation and technology. The ambassador noted that, in addition to its rich historical heritage, the country is renowned for cutting-edge brands and technologies, and that studying there would offer not only a source of deep professional knowledge but also an opportunity to experience a unique culture.
In his remarks, the diplomat highlighted the rapid development of bilateral relations, in which the partnership in the field of education plays a significant role.
A significant event of the year was the opening of first «Luban Workshop» of Turkmenistan at the International oil and gas university named after Yagshygeldi Kakayev. Furthermore, in August, the «Central Asia – China» Education Exchange and Cooperation Centre was unveiled at the Turkmen state university named after Magtymguly, with the participation of a delegation from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. In the near future, the first HSK international Chinese language testing center will open at the Turkmen national institute of world languages named after Dovletmammet Azady, enabling local youth to certify their language skills at an international level.
Currently, around ten thousand young citizens of Turkmenistan are pursuing higher education in China, with approximately three hundred and fifty of them studying under intergovernmental agreements. At the same time, academic exchange is expanding, and an increasing number of educational institutions in China are introducing degree programs in the Turkmen language.
Yusup Tuvakov, a representative of the Ministry of education of Turkmenistan, echoed remarks of the Ambassador and reported on the expansion of academic ties.
Over the past two years, instructors from Turkmen state university named after Magtymguly have worked at Beijing foreign studies university, teaching the Turkmen language to Chinese students. Three new specialists from China will soon arrive in Turkmenistan to teach the Chinese language at the country's leading universities, while six students from Beijing will come to Ashgabat for an internship to study the Turkmen language.
Today, about a thousand students at nine higher education institutions and more than six thousand schoolchildren at ten secondary schools in Turkmenistan are studying Chinese.
Education serves as a reliable bridge for strengthening interstate ties, building mutual trust, and passing on cultural values to future generations. As part of scholarship initiatives for the 2026–2027 academic year, another forty-three citizens of Turkmenistan will head to higher education institutions in China for their studies.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the students and their parents expressed their sincere gratitude to the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov; the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov; as well as the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and the Embassy of China, for their support of the youth and the opportunities provided to obtain a quality education.
