Wrestler Ziyamuhammet Saparov is the standard bearer of Turkmen National team at the opening of Summer Asian Games

Representatives of sport delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the opening ceremony of XVIII Summer Asian Games. It was held at eh Bung Carno Stadium of Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

Turkmen sportsmen among the parade of the athletes have greeted numerous spectators of this remarkable event. Free style wrestler Ziyamuhammet Saparov, the young but titled athlete, was honoured to bear the standard. Last year, the foster of Coach Gandym Gajiyev won two medals in the age category up to 18 years old in the weigh category up to 97 kg – the bronze at the World Championship in Athens (Greece) and the silver at the Asian Championship in Bangkok (Thailand). The sportsman is numerous prize winner of international junior tournaments.

The mountain with thick tropical vegetation built in the middle of the stadium and symbolizing Indonesia with big waterfall and volcano on the top was the main feature of the ceremony. Local singers and artists performed on the background of these grandiose decorations demonstrating modern life of this place and historical moments of the country.

Finishing of the games torch relay was the culmination of the ceremony after the speeches of the Presidents of Indonesia and Asian Olympic Union. The torch bearers went up to the top of the mountain and lit up the volcano. Flags hoisting ceremony took place afterwards and Summer Asian Games were officially opened.

65 sportsmen in 11 sports have been honoured to represent Turkmenistan at the main Asian tournament. Already on the next day, free style wrestlers and swimmers would have to start the competition for medals. From August 21, our sportsmen including the prize winners of the World and Asian Championships would start the contests in weightlifting and Greek – Roman wrestling. There are good perspectives to win the medals in these sports.

Turkmenistan national men’s team will have its first match in 3X3 basketball in U23 age category on August 22. By the results of the draw, the teams from Iran, Iraq, Malaysia and Kazakhstan will be our opponents in D group.

The masters of jujitsu will define the winners on August 24 – 26. The boxers will have their first fights on August 24 while the gold medallists will be known only on the last day of the competitions – September 1. Track and field athletics tournament will start on August 25.

14 Turkmen athletes will compete in kurash wrestling tournament on August 28. These competitions will last until August 30.

Judo and sambo masters will finish the programme of the Asian Games in this sports. These martial arts schools have old traditions in Turkmenistan. The fights in these disciplines will last until the closing day of the Asian Games.

The Games will last for 15 days and will end up on September 2. Around 10,000 sportsmen from 45 countries will take part in the tournaments, they will have to define the winners of almost 1,5 thousands sets of medals.
