Cooperation in trade and economics was named one of the important tasks for Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan at the talks between President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, attended by the members of the Government delegations of the two countries.

The sides noted that the existing level of bilateral trade does not reflect the enormous possibilities of the two countries, stressed the importance of identifying new areas and forms of partnership and agreed that the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Kyrgyz Commission for Trade and Economic, Scientific and Technical, and Humanitarian Cooperation must take the lead in those areas. The recent session of the committee was held in Ashgabat where the sides reached important agreements on initiating joint projects in value chains, agriculture and construction.

We must begin the implementation of these decisions immediately, said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and suggested that business circles, private companies and enterprises of the two countries must engage in this work more actively. Stressing the importance of establishing direct business contacts and organizing joint exhibitions for producers from the two countries, the head of state expressed readiness to support such initiatives and facilitate them.

We possess an enormous potential for cooperation in such strategic areas as energy and transport. Due to their geographic location, both countries enjoy partnership in implementing major international energy projects. Located at the interface of continental Eurasian routes, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan could play a proactive role in creating the East-West transport routes.

During the talks, the sides also discussed humanitarian partnership where they cooperate in education and science, and conduct cultural exchanges. They have agreed to promote such cooperation and create conditions to raise awareness among our peoples about the rich ancient cultural and historical heritage of the Turkmen and Kyrgyz nations.

Cooperation in sports is a significant factor of bilateral relations. The Kyrgyzstan national team performed successfully at the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games that took place in Ashgabat last year. Turkmen athletes, in turn, participate in the unique event kindred to us, the World Nomad Games, regularly held in Kyrgyzstan.
