Presidents of Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan have made a statement for the press, summing up the bilateral talks.

Commenting on the top-level talks, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted their fruitful character and expressed gratitude to the head of Kyrgyzstan for the accepted invitation to pay a state visit to Turkmenistan, which is regarded as a landmark event for the two countries and nations.

The one-to-one meeting with President Sooronbay Jeenbekov as well as the enlarged talks attended by the two countries’ official delegations were conducted in the spirit of friendship and constructive dialogue, and had a businesslike and trust-based character. The parties closely focused on the bilateral relations and held an exchange of opinions on topical regional and international issues.

President of Kyrgyzstan demonstrated shared understanding and support for practically all the issues discussed, expressed his country’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with Turkmenistan and respect for our country’s neutral foreign policy, the Turkmen leader said. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to develop the brotherly relations, strengthen the bonds of friendship and mutually advantageous partnership with Kyrgyzstan.

The Turkmen leader stated the similarity and concurrence of approaches of the two countries to the key foreign policy issues. Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan strongly advocate the promotion of global and regional stability, peace, security, and respect for the international rules of law, specified in the Charter of the United Nations. The parties reached an agreement on closer cooperation within this organization and other international agencies.

As highlighted, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan are strongly committed to the uncompromising fight against international terrorism, extremism, illegal drug trafficking and transborder organized crime.

Having recognized the peaceful settlement of political situation in Afghanistan as the only possible way, the head of Turkmenistan stressed that the parties agreed to provide considerable assistance to the international community in rebuilding the country’s economy. In this context, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan stand for Afghanistan’s active and meaningful participation in large-scale regional and international projects, in particular, in the power, transport and communications sectors.

The issues of greater regional cooperation, including with the aim of tackling water- and energy-related problems in Central Asia, received special attention during the talks. The countries agreed to work towards achieving a regional consensus on the basis of equality, mutual respect and common interests of partners.

While on the subject of bilateral trade-economic partnership, the parties noted the need to make the most of the two countries’ untapped potential, designate new areas for cooperation in industry, agriculture, the processing industry, construction, etc.

Turkmenistan and the Kyrgyz Republic are willing to vigorously support large-scale international energy and transport projects. The state will actively assist in building transport arteries as part of the East-West Corridor with the access to the vast European and Middle East markets.

The parties also agreed to foster and strengthen cultural-humanitarian, educational, scientific and sporting relations.
