President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has met with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev prior to the Summit of leaders of the IFAS founding-member states in Avaza.

The parties exchanged views on the agenda of the summit meeting, having noted the importance of the issues for the region’s countries and the need to consolidate efforts to tackle ecological problems.

Having focused on the implementation of the earlier agreements and the massive joint projects in the strategic transport and energy sectors, the heads of state displayed their countries’ commitment to close bilateral and regional cooperation.

The Turkmen leader also expressed his gratitude to the President of Kazakhstan for the warm reception given to him in Aktau, where the pentalateral Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea had been adopted.

The two neighboring countries’ leaders highlighted the significance of the recently opened International Seaport in the city of Turkmenbashi, which will significantly contribute to the rapid development of a modern maritime transport system in the Caspian Sea and multimodal infrastructure in the entire region.
