The 11th General Assembly and International Seminar of the Regional committee of the UNESCO «Memory of the world» programme for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) will be held in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, from 2nd to 6th of November 2026.

The main organiser of the event is the National archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI), together with the National commissions for UNESCO of the Republic of Korea and Indonesia, as well as the Korea heritage service.

The central theme of the seminar is «The world of water: sea nomads, documentary heritage and Memory of the world». It focuses on the culture, history and preservation of the heritage of the sea nomad communities of Southeast Asia.

At the opening ceremony of the forum, Indonesian Minister of Culture Fadli Zon and the Chair of the Regional committee of the UNESCO «Memory of the world» Programme for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) Kwibe Kim addressed the participants with welcoming speeches.

Our country is represented at this large-scale international event by the executive secretary of the National commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO and a research fellow at the Institute of language, literature, and national manuscripts named after Magtymguly of the Academy of sciences of Turkmenistan.

During the event, 21 unique elements of documentary heritage were added to the Asia-Pacific regional register of the UNESCO «Memory of the world» programme (MOWCAP). Among them is the nomination put forward by Turkmenistan: «Archival sources on the life and work of Abu Ishaq Ibrahim ibn Adham». It received high praise from the jury and was included in this prestigious list, becoming the first documentary heritage object of our country in this regional registry.

The seminar included the signing of international memoranda. In addition, a thematic exhibition of archival documents, manuscripts, photographs, and film footage reflecting the history of maritime civilisations of the region was opened in the halls of the National archives of the Republic of Indonesia.
