President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov arrived in Mary Velayat to attend the opening ceremony of the first in the country combined gas and steam turbine power station that works based on the coordinated control with Mary hydro-electric power station.
The event is dedicated to the Day of Workers of the Electric-Power Industry of Turkmenistan.
The new power plant ranks among the advanced engineering and technical developments and the best in the world of this series. Not only natural gas but also steam will be used at the new plant as a fuel for generating electricity. The entire technological process is completely computerized and supervised from the operations control centre.
The structure of the energy system of Turkmenistan that now fully satisfies the demand for electric energy and supplies energy to foreign markets includes the Mary hydro-electric power station, as well as a number of new powerful power plants, supplied with the most advanced equipment that were opened in Ashgabat, Ahal, Balkan, Lebap and Dashoguz velayats.
The major investment projects are implemented to modernize the existing and build the new power plants, to lay power transmission lines, to build dozens of distribution substations, to upgrade the energy supply and lighting system in the capital, cities and settlements of the country in the strategic sector of the national economy in accordance with the "Concept for the Development of the Electricity Industry of Turkmenistan in 2013-2020".
