Information and training class at the Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna

An information and training class was opened in the National Institute of Deserts, Flora and Fauna of Turkmenistan in the framework of the project “Smart Waters” implemented by Central Asia Regional Ecology Center (CAREC) and the IFAS Executive Committee with the Assistance of the US Agency for International Development.

The representatives of the structural units of the State Committee for Environmental Protection and Land Resources, the IFAS Executive Committee, international organizations, experts of joint environmental programmes attended the information centre opening ceremony. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA to Turkmenistan Alan Mustard took part in the event. Executive Director of CAREC Iskandar Abdullaev addressed the forum participants online.

According to the organizers, the activity of the new structure is aimed at maintaining an effective regional dialogue in all aspects of environmental management, adaptation to climate change. The classroom is supplied with office equipment, equipment for remote consultations, webinars, video presentations, modern software.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Project Manager of the USAID-CAREC Project on “Smart Waters” Ekaterina Strikeleva noted that by the end of this year, it was planned to hold online conferences with the representatives of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers and the Tajik Scientific Research Institute of Hydraulic Engineering and Land Reclamation.

According to CAREC, the info-centre was opened with the aim to enhance cooperation in the field of sustainable development, to create an effective platform to help water specialists, ecologists, climatologists, and desert scientists to exchange their experience. In the near future, a similar Information and Training Class will be open to the employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
