Men competed for the medals in super heavy weight category above 109 kg on the last day of the World Weightlifting Championship. Hojamuhammet Toychyyev, who lifted 240 kg in the clean-and-jerk and improved his personal record by one kg, represented our country. Failing lifting 145 kg he became the fourth in this discipline and the seventh in total.

Olympic champion Lasha Talakhadze from Georgia had nobody equal to him. In the snatch, he lifted 217 kg in the first attempt. He set new world records of 212 and 217 kg in the next two attempts. Gor Minasyan from Armenia lost 12 kg to the leader and won the silver. The bronze was taken by Irakli Turmanidze from Georgia. Ali Davoudi from Iran set junior world record of 197 in this category and took the sixth position.

In the clean-and-jerk, Lasha Talakhadze set and afterwards improved the world record up to 257 kg in the discipline and up to 457 kg in total. Gor Minasyan was the second in the clean-and-jerk and n total. Uzbek weightlifter Rustam Jangibayev was the third in the clean-and-jerk and in total.

Chinese weightlifting team is the leader in total medal count. It has 20 gold, 23 silver and 10 bronze medals. Weightlifters from Thailand are on the second position and the DPRK team is on the third place.
