Turkmenistan has another foreign policy success

Turkmenistan was elected to the membership of the Executive Council of the World Food Programme for 2020 – 2022, the UN Population and Development Commission for 2020 – 2024 and the UN Narcotic Drugs Commission for 2020 – 2023 during the session of the UN Economic and Social Council on organizational issues on May 7, 2019.

It was informed to the Head of the State by Vice-premier, Head of foreign Minister Rashid Meredov at video conference session of the Government on May 10. Having congratulated the Head of the State on this major foreign policy achievement of the country, the Vice-premier, the Head of the Foreign Minister highlighted that this fact is visual indication of recognition and support of the constructive strategy and creative initiatives of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov aimed at the solution of current issues of the present and achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Developing strategic partnership with the United Nations, our country actively participates in international efforts for solution of important objectives in these directions in regional and global scales. Seven Representative offices of the UN Specialized Agencies accredited in Turkmenistan makes their contribution to the strengthening of this traditional cooperation. In this aspect, it is necessary to note the fact that the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy is located in Ashgabat. At the same time, Representative offices of Turkmenistan work permanently at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, Vienna and Geneva.

For the last 12 years, the Government of our country and specialized UN departments have fulfilled 368 targeted projects in different spheres. At present, Turkmenistan is a member of 10 structural divisions of the United Nations including the ECOSOC, under with it carries out relative activity.

Having accepted with delight the information, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highlighted that our country is committed to the strategy of peace-loving and wide international cooperation where special attention is paid to constructive dialog with the United Nations. Resting of rich experience gain for the past years, this fruitful partnership has received new quality and content.

Election of Turkmenistan to the above-mentioned UN structures is visual evidence of this, the Head of the State said, having noted that this foreign policy success of our country also indicates growing authority in the world arena.
