Izmir Hosts Conference Devoted to 25th Anniversary of Turkmenistan’s Neutrality
The Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Turkey and the Consulate General of Turkmenistan in Istanbul have organized a conference devoted to the 25th anniversary of permanent neutrality in collaboration with the local authority of Izmir’s Konak District.

As part of the forum held at the Izmir National Library, participants were offered an opportunity to get familiar with books authored by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov: ‘The Source of Wisdom’, ‘World Music: Music of Friendship and Brotherhood’, and ‘Turkmenistan – the Heart of the Silk Road’ that incorporate the theme of historical-cultural heritage and spiritual values of the Turkmen nation.

Among those attending the event were representatives of the Izmir City Council, the local authority of Konak District, library staff, scientists, public figures, and Turkmen students, who study at Turkey’s universities.

Speakers at the conference included Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Turkey Ishanguly Amanlyev, Consul General of Turkmenistan in Istanbul Muratgeldy Seyitmammedov, Konak District Mayor Abdul Batur, and Director of the Izmir National Library Ulvi Puğ, among others.

As noted, over the last 25 years Turkmenistan’s neutrality has proved itself to be an effective mechanism for promoting international cooperation and building relations between countries and nations on the principles of equality, peace, good neighborliness and openness.

This is evidenced by the new Resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2015, supporting our country’s neutrality and recognizing its instrumental role in the region and in the global arena, and by the declaration of December 12 as International Neutrality Day by the UN General Assembly on Turkmenistan’s initiative.

The conference participants were introduced to the priorities of Turkmenistan’s home and foreign policy, objectives and aspects of the constitutional reform, achievements in the implementation of national socio-economic development programs and a digitalization strategy, a series of measures aimed at realizing investment, transport & logistics, tourism potential and boosting the country’s exports, and democratic transformations.

Particular emphasis was placed on the Turkmen people’s considerate attitude towards their historical-cultural and spiritual heritage, and the continuity of traditions. The attendees also highlighted a progressive character of the Turkmen-Turkish interstate dialogue.
